About Dr. Soumen Das
Dr. Soumen Das, a distinguished breast and cancer surgeon with over fifteen years of dedicated practice in eastern India, is renowned for his expertise and contributions to the field. A graduate of Medical College Kolkata, he earned his MBBS and MS in Surgery with multiple Gold Medals and Honours, including standing first in Surgery at the university level. Dr. Das further honed his skills through fellowships at prestigious institutions such as Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai and City of Hope Hospital in Los Angeles, USA, specializing in Surgical Oncology and robotic cancer surgery respectively. His professional achievements include European Breast Surgical Oncologist Certification, FRCS (Glasgow), and FACS (USA) conferred by The Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow and American College of Surgeons. Dr. Das's prolific career is marked by over fifty scientific publications, authorship of two books and numerous book chapters, and the invention of several innovative cancer surgical techniques. As the founder director of the Institute of Breast Disease, his visionary leadership has led to its rapid recognition by the European Breast Centres Network within a year of its establishment.

It occurs when the breast cells grow and multiply abnormally forming a tumour. It can be felt as a lump under the skin or only upon an imaging test such as a mammogram or ultrasound. Lumps found in the breast cab be cancerous or non-cancerous.
